Peanuts in shells harvest
Peanut plants with missing leaves and damaged stems from rabbits
baby peanut plant emerging from peanut in shell

Plant of the Week: Peanuts. These are Fastigiata Pin Striped Peanuts, native to Ecuador. Small harvest due to rabbits eating the tops and voles eating the roots. But each of the peanuts in package- with sell by of 12/2019 germinated in 05/2025 and thrived in Zone 6b until varmints showed up.

If you ever get a chance, visit George Washington Carver National Monument, in Newton County, Southwestern Missouri, to learn about this African American agricultural scientist’s important work on peanuts, soybeans, more.
